Thinking About Ware

Does anyone else imagine how Ware would look in the Steelers defense?

Joey Porter is by no means a slouch, but he doesn't have Ware's measurables.

Just think how Ware would DOMINATE in that defense. He would be blitzing from all different spots and would creating total havoc, causing fumbles and having many multi-sack games. He would be Porter x 3.

My point is that in Pitt., and possibly San Diego or Philly, those coaches would use his skills to the maximum, but here in Dallas, he just looks like he's being held back from what he could be.

As a Cowboys fan, it's completely frustrating. When we switched to the 3-4, I just knew we would have a "bringing the hammer"-type defense, contantly attacking and maximizing the skills of Ware, R. Williams and everyone else, but we've done nothing but sit back.

I can't stand our passive 3-4 defense.

I love Ware, but man, I'm watching Merriman tear up Brooks.

I have no preference 3-4 vs 4-3, they're both effective if used correctly. The problem lies in the application.

The underlying philosophy of the 3-4 is confusion:
"Will they bring 3 and drop the LB's into coverage, or will they bring 5 and play man-coverage?"

The key the 3-4 is disguise.
The key to disguise is creativity.

Perhaps Zimmer just doesn't have enough experience with the 3-4 to use it creatively, after all this is his Sophomore year with this scheme. Each game will bring new insight and new inspiration.

Or, perhaps Tuna is hedging his bets, keeping the surprises hidden, saving his best for crunch time.

IF SO- it may appear to have cost us a game early, but even Tiger Woods occasionally bogeys the first hole!
